Sad to see it go.
We stayed in one of their tower rooms. It was a large room and we had a pretty good view of the Strip. Very satisfied with the room and it was also quite clean. We at the Surf Buffet one night as we got it late, and heard so much about how bad it was, that it actually surprised us on how good it was. I've eaten better, but I've also eaten worse. I absolutely loved its location and I liked the fact that I could get around this hotel very easily. So many of them are so big that it's easy to get turned around in them and sometimes you feel like you need a tram just to get to your room. I am probably in the minority, but I don't like staying in those oversized amusement part type hotels. I feel like I'm in an anthill so to speak. I only stayed the one time at the Boardwalk and would very easily have stayed there again if I could get one of the Tower Rooms. I absolutely do not like the MGM Grand Hotel's ridiculous size. I will really miss the small outdated Boardwalk Hotel and am sorry to see the large "resort monster" the Project CityCenter be built in her place.

Having travelled the 4 corners of the world I find some of the reviews on this hotel really funny. I've stayed at the Boardwalk twice and have had no complaints. So the food isn't great, so what go somewhere else and eat!! The rooms don't have hot and cold running champagne, I've been at places that don't even have running water!! The boardwalk is a cheap, friendly hotel in a great location. What more could you want.
I sometimes wonder if some (and I say some!) americans have no idea what the rest of the world is like and how lucky they really are. Compared to some of the places I have stayed in Europe and Asia the Boardwalk is 5 star!!! Go and enjoy instead of going and moaning, life is too short for that!

My husband surprised me with a trip to Vegas for my birthday and chose the Boardwalk hotel. Definetly not my pick. The room was clean but small. The lighting was very dim and the switches on the lamps - were more to be desired. You couldn't turn them on! Apparently the original light sockets broke and were replaced with sockets that did not fit properly. The curtains didn't close properly either. The lobby was nice, but once inside the casino the smoke was so thick you could literally cut it with a knife. It was terrible! The evening entertainment was equally as bad. American Idol candidates - they don't have a prayer! The dealers at the casino tables were not only sloppy dressers they were sloppy dealers - no joke! Don't recommend eating here, even though the prices are cheap - you get what you pay for. Compared to the other larger casino's - it screams Holiday Inn. This hotel has been taken off our choice list of places to stay in Vegas. So far, the best place for your money, food and large rooms is Sam's Town!

You can't beat the location and price for this hotel. No, you're not going to get luxury, but you get a decent room dead-center of the Strip. If you're trying to impress somebody, this is not your place. This place just provides a great headquarters and retreat in the middle of the action. There is a heliport next door (heading towards Caesar's) and you can hear the copters taking off and landing from where I stayed in the smaller tower.
The casino is kind of dinky and cheesy but if you're looking to get comped cocktails that will not be a problem. I had a few surly dealers but every place has a few bad apples. I'd actually recommend gambling right next door at the Monte Carlo or walking down to the Imperiak Palace. The casino seemed to be smokier than the other places and that was a big turn off for me.
I hit the deli late one night and my sandwiched pretty much sucked and I'm pretty easy to please. The breakfast buffet was average and there was not much of a line.
Check-in & check-out was a breeze.

I don't care what you guys say. I love this place. Discovered it on my first trip and have stayed there twice since, staying there again next week! It's an old Holiday Inn, don't expect lavish rooms, but they are clean. The casino is the best. It's the only casino on the strip where you can look up from your machine or blackjack table and see SUNSHINE!!! Because it's smaller, you get more attention from the cocktail girls, dealers, and floormen. I'm a $5/hand bettor and I got comped 5 nights in the hotel! Matt, the bellman is a hottie and he'll do just about anything you ask of him (trust me). Very, very nice people, easy comps, buffet is so/so, but the deli up front has the HUGEST PORTIONS for like $1.99 and believe it or not, it tastes great. Would not recommend room service. The Purple Reign (Prince) show can be heard from the tables even on a busy night, makes for a fun sing-along while you're waiting for the shuffle. If you're a small-towner, this is your kind of place, visit the big, fancy hotel/casinos, but stay at The Boardwalk, it's the closest to hometown folks you'll find in vegas.

Too bad I never saw these reviews before I went.... 3 star? I don't think so, not even close. This place is a total dump, overrated and overpriced. Imploded? Can I push the button?

I have placed this same review is some other pages. Why, because I got lots of help when reasearching for hotels on the net,now I am trying to contribute.I am a person that has stayed at the major hotels/casinos and the small hotels/motels on the strip.
I just arrived from staying 2 nights at this place. Since I arrived I liked the small feeling of a small compact hotel/casino in a perfect location along the strip. Very nice rooms at the tower and a really good location. I believe this is a good place for those who: Do not gamble a lot and want to have a good time at the local bar. Gamble and like to pay less and save money to spend next door at the big casinos. Pay less staying at a good hotel by being next to the major casinos in the strip.
I am not the biggest fan of Prince, but their free 3 hour show was great. The buffet was okay if you compare it to those big buffets that cost $13-$25. The good thing about their buffet is that is inside a small place and is cheap. You get what you pay for ($7-9). If you are used to the big and pricey buffets, I recommend you go next door. The Boardwalk is next to the major hotels on the strip. Not even the Circus Circus, Stratosphere and the Riviera are located this good on the strip.
I recommend this hotel if you feel okay in staying a nice place by spending little money for good service and location.

We stayed in May 2002 and paid just $39 per night. It is true you get what you pay for and this little hotel was a bargain for us. Our room was clean and we had a great time in the casino-lower table limits and friendly dealers. The location is the best thing about this property. If you go to Vegas to spend a lot of time by the pool or in your room, or if you want luxury this may not be the place for you, but if you just want someplace to rest between wild nights of partying, you may find this suitable.

I stayed there a while ago. What a s-hole! I don't know if it's any better now, but it was definitely one of the worst places I've ever stayed, and I've stayed at some really bad ones! On a brighter note, it's supposed to be imploded soon. What a great idea!! Is it still open? If so, avoid at all costs! It's that bad.....

What a dive!!! NO service!! I was there for a week--attending a seminar and NEVER again. Urnial fell off the wall in the bathroom. Put me in the scuzzie motel side first--REFUSED that--changed to tower. I was only paying $55 night--but that was about $55 too much. Do not eat at the buffet--horrible and there is no service in the Cafe. Jus go somewhere else. Elizabeth

I ended up staying here for my first trip to Vegas. I can't really complain too much about it, the rooms had all I really needed and cared about from a Vegas hotel, (bed, and a place to shower and clean up). The location was great, and right in the middle of the strip. Also just a reminder, that if you really want all the extra luxeries of the larger strip hotels, walk next door to the Bellagio. If you don't mind going with the bare essentials, I would suggest staying at this hotel.

Room was OK..clean. When in Vegas the room is just for naps and showers anyway. "Food" was disgusting. Casino small, but profitable

I will be there to cheer on the implosion in early 2002. This place is a discrace to Nevada and the ground that it is resting on. I and 99.999% of visitors of Las Vegas will be glad to see it gone. Once it is imploded it will be instantly forgotten.

Holiday Inn or MGM or whoever currently owns this hotel should be ashamed of themselves! Not only is the hotel old but, it is dirty and the people that it attracts aren't exactly the type I would care to spend any time around. I'm glad they're going to implode this hotel, it's the joke of the Las Vegas Strip.
I would recommend staying at the Stratosphere if you're looking for a cheaper hotel on the Strip and don't forget about the hotels on Fremont...the location isn't great but you can book a deluxe hotel like the Golden Nugget for less than most located on the Strip. Also don't book in July...it's hot as you know where this time of year.

What a dump! I'm glad they're planning on blowing it up! If you're looking for a cheap place to stay in town try something off the Strip rather than this place. I have nothing good to say about it.
